THE JAZZ
SOCIETY
The Gap Gig, in the Goring Village Hall, from 8pm to 11.30pm on Friday
16 May, presents The Chris Barber Band – Europe’s greatest blues and
traditional band. It’s true – the legend comes to Goring! Licensed bar with
local Real Ales (still only £2 a pint!). Tickets, £18, are available from Inspiration

CANCER RESEARCH UK – LADIES NIGHT OUT
Join us in Goring Village Hall on Wednesday
11 June, between 7 and 11pm, for a pampering evening. An opportunity
to experience a variety of treatments of your choice, some beautyrelated and
some health-related and all at a very reasonable charge. The evening will be
great fun and we look forward to welcoming ladies of all ages.

GORING & STREATLEY JAZZ & FOOD
FEST
On Saturday 14 June, The
Goring Jazz Society and The Goring & Streatley Sustainability Group will
present the Goring & Streatley Jazz & Food Fest running from noon until
midnight. This will be a day of live music, great food and fun. During the day
The Miller of Mansfield, The Swan Hotel, The John Barleycorn, The Bull, The
Queens and The Catherine Wheel will have live jazz. In the Rectory Gardens there
will be food and charity stalls. Also in the Rectory Gardens, Unplugged will
all day titivate your musical ear with fine guitar and fiddle playing. There
will be a bar and a live jazz session in the Bellême Room. Due to circumstances
beyond the organisers’ control, the Martyn Brothers will not be appearing. Instead,
we have been extremely fortunate in securing for the event Jonny Boston’s Boston
Tea Party, a remarkable New Orleans band with some of Britain’s finest young
musicians, led by a rising star of British jazz. They will march through the
villages at 2.30pm and play in the Hall from 8.30pm to midnight.
GORING PRIMARY SUMMER FETE
Goring Primary School will be holding its Summer Fête on
Saturday 14 June from 2pm
to 5pm. There will be many fun attractions for all ages, including tombola,
toy and plant stalls, teas, cakes, BBQ. Also pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 will
be organising their own stalls. Sponsored by Warmingham and Davis Tate and organised
by the School PTA, the fête will also feature a fabulous raffle with many exciting
prizes.

COME AND SEE SOUTH STOKE’S TALENT ON
SHOW
Following the auditions in April, an amazing line-up of
local talent has been selected to take part in the South Stoke Talent Show on
Saturday 21 June, in aid of the Thames Valley
and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and local charities.
Tickets for this midsummer’s show, to be held at The
Malthouse, The Street, South Stoke, go on sale on Monday 19 May and are available
from Inspiration. Adults, £10 and children under 12, £5. Gates open at 5.30pm
for those who wish to picnic on the lawn and the evening of entertainment starts,
whatever the weather, at 7.30pm. A bar will be serving Pimm’s and local beer.
It promises to be a fabulous show and local businesses Warmingham and Richard
Wilson and Co. are showing their support by sponsoring the event. Other businesses

GARDENS OPEN IN STREATLEY HIGH STREET
On Sunday 22 June you will
be able to visit some of Streatley’s most attractive gardens from 2 to 5pm.
This will be a very pleasant way to take a walk along Streatley High Street.
Tea will be available in three of the gardens.
Advance tickets are available from Inspiration at £2.50 per adult (£2 for senior
citizens), £1 per child, or £5 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children/senior
citizens). This includes entry to all gardens open that afternoon. Tea will
be charged separately. Tickets and maps will also be available on the day at
each garden. Look out for the balloons on the gates of those gardens which are
open to visit. This is in aid of Streatley Recreation Ground and organised by

is delighted to be performing in the stunning garden setting of Hardwick House
at Whitchurch on Thames on Saturday 19 July.
The opera, which will be sung in English, sparkles with wit and the most enchanting
music and is well suited to Garden Opera’s company of talented young professionals.
Whether an opera lover or absolute newcomer, you’ll enjoy the entertaining,
intimate and approachable style. Why not make up a group of friends and bring
a picnic to enjoy on the stunning lawns to the side of Hardwick House. Gardens

AROUND & ABOUT
LANGTREE SINFONIA SUMMER CONCERT
The Langtree Sinfonia Summer Concert will take place on Saturday
17 May at 7pm in the glorious setting of Dorchester Abbey. The concert,
conducted by Paul Cox, opens with Brahms’ Tragic Overture
to be followed in contrast by the Organ Concerto Op4
no.4 by Handel. The soloist will be Jeremy Boughton, director of music
and organist at Dorchester Abbey. Members of the Thames Consort and Dorchester
Abbey Choir will also accompany this piece. With the violinist Sharon Warnes,
Jeremy has given many recitals in the UK and abroad. To conclude the concert,
Jeremy will play the organ in Saint Saens powerful and exciting Organ
Symphony No. 3, considered to be his most famous work.

THE WALLINGFORD COUNTRY MARKET
From mid May until mid June
it’s Bedding Bonanza and Basket Bloomers time at the market, with local home-grown
competitively priced plants available for bedding, borders and baskets. Our
usual good selection of fresh baking, preserves, honey, hen and duck eggs, produce,
crafts, greetings cards and jewellery will also be available, all home-made,
home-grown or hand-crafted.
The Market is open each Friday from 8.45 to 11.15am

BENSON CHORAL SOCIETY
For their Summer concert, Benson Choral Society is performing
a selection of English and American works: Bernstein – Chichester
Psalms, Randall Thompson – Alleluia,
Britten – Rejoice in the Lamb and Parry – Blest
Pair of Sirens. They will be accompanied by the harpist Jenny Broom,
organist Jeremy Boughton and percussion under the baton of their conductor,
Christopher Walker. The concert is in Dorchester Abbey on Saturday
14 June, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets for the concert are £12 (reserved) or £10 (unreserved)
with reductions for those under 21 (£9.00, £7.00) and free for under 12s. They
